Driving in Switzerland

A valid driver’s license and valid vehicle documents entitle you to drive on the Swiss roads. These points must also be met:

Speed ​​limit

on the highway: 120 km / h; Car with trailer 80 km / h, motorhomes over 3.5 t 100 km / h

Town: 50 km / h, mopeds 30 km / h

outside of places: 80 km / h, mopeds 30 km / h

Vignette

On Swiss highways there is a vignette obligation. Swiss rental cars are already equipped with the vignette. If you are traveling from abroad, you must have a vignette visibly attached to the windshield in front of the motorway entrance. Vignettes can be bought at most border crossings, at petrol stations, at the post office and in some shops as well as at the ADAC. A vignette costs 40 CHF and is valid from the 1st of December of the previous year until the 31st of January of the next year (14 months). Example: The vignette of the year 2017 is valid from 1.12.2016 to 31.1.2018.

Car rental

Driving licenses issued at least one year before entitle you to rent a rental car. Europcar is the leading car rental company in Switzerland with more than 75 stations and up to 4200 vehicles.
