The Ecomuseum “alter Gasthof” can be visited by individuals from June to October. The exhibition can be visited without a guide. The focus of the museum is on the history, personalities and development of the Simplon region.

The entrance is CHF 5.00. The exhibition can be visited individually or with guidance (by appointment, for groups).

The “alter Gasthof” in Simplon village forms the actual center of the Ecomuseum. The former Susten building on the village square was built in several stages between the 14th and 18th centuries. In Simplon Dorf’s typical construction, the wooden block walls were surrounded by walls. After the purchase by the community, the building was restored in 1991-95. The Old Inn also houses the museum’s permanent exhibition. International transit traffic and its effects on regional history are the focus of the presentation. The concept of the Ecomuseum Simplon is rooted in the idea of holistically looking at the habitat and showing the interrelation between man and the environment. The name is program. The Ecomuseum leaves the venerable walls of the classical museum and becomes the expert companion of a mobile audience. It is interested in the natural space as well as the historical environment that has made the natural landscape into a cultural landscape.
