Traveling like 150 years ago
From Andermatt via the Gotthard Pass to Airolo with the legendary Gotthard Horse Post. A journey into the past that has it all. At the time, merchants, scientists, ambassadors and travelers to the world felt that it was an onerous exertion, today a unique and exclusive pleasure and lasting experience.
Lean back in the luxurious Landau Coupé and enjoy the beautiful landscape of the Gotthard for a whole day. Let yourself be carried away by past traveler romance.
Get off at Andermatt station in the faithfully reconstructed Gotthard Postwagen and forget about your worries. Your well-being is taken care of. Postillon and Kondukteur (both in original equipment) lead the proud Fünfspänner through the Urserental. In the center of Andermatt at the Hotel Drei Könige and Post – where once all postal carriages made their way to the south, we stop for a welcome drink. Passing Hospental you go uphill towards Mätteli, the second stop. Whenever possible we leave the new pass road and follow the old Gotthard route. This is also the case at the Brüggloch, where the border with the canton of Ticino is already being exceeded by trotting. At the hospice, in the old Sust – at the former Monte Prosa – a leisurely lunch awaits us, after which the door is open for a visit to the National Gotthard Museum. – In the afternoon we experience the tremola. The famous serpentine that Rudolf Koller has impressively captured in his picture. Passing by the motto Bartola, the carriage takes you down to Airolo, where the journey ends with a Ticino “merenda” – a Zvieri. Grooms caring for the animals accompany with a small material transporter discretely the journey. You as a passenger only have to relax.
The Historic Travel Post offers you this unique ride.
