Home of the iconic Matterhorn
Zermatt is one of Switzerland's most famous mountain resorts, sitting at the foot of the mighty Matterhorn (4,478m) — perhaps the most photographed mountain in the world. This car-free village has preserved its traditional Alpine charm while offering world-class facilities.
In winter, Zermatt boasts 360 km of ski runs and Europe's highest ski area. In summer, over 400 km of hiking trails wind through flower-filled meadows with jaw-dropping mountain views. The Gornergrat railway takes you to 3,089m for a breathtaking panorama of 29 peaks over 4,000 meters.
Train from Zürich (3.5 hours) via Visp. From Geneva (4 hours) via Visp. Zermatt is car-free — park in Täsch and take the shuttle train (12 min). The Glacier Express from St. Moritz is a scenic alternative.
Year-round! Winter (December–April) for skiing, summer (June–September) for hiking. The Matterhorn is visible most clearly on crisp autumn mornings.
